Chinese authorities halted the Solana Accelerate event in Shanghai due to alleged unauthorized promotional activities involving domestic entities. China’s state-backed Financial News reported that an official described Solana’s technical services supporting cryptocurrency issuance and trading as illegal financial activities under current regulations.

Regulatory context

The intervention marks the second reported disruption of a Solana event in mainland China in the past two years. In February, the People’s Bank of China and several other agencies reinforced crypto-related restrictions, including a new ban on the unauthorized issuance of yuan-pegged stablecoins.

Previous disruptions

An October 2025 Solana event in Shenzhen was cut short due to venue capacity and public-safety concerns, according to an announcement by Solana’s Chinese-speaking community on X. Prior to the Shanghai halt, Solana Foundation president Lily Liu stated on Oct. 16 that organizers had postponed the event to comply with local requirements after registration unexpectedly quadrupled, exceeding the pre-registered cap.
